SEATTLE, Oct. 12, 2026 | Amazon is reportedly in talks to buy Decart, an AI startup that builds real-time video models and software for running AI across different chips, for about $7 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. Yahoo Finance’s summary of the report says the Journal cited people familiar with the matter and that a deal could come together soon, though talks could collapse or another bidder could step in.

Amazon declined to comment, saying it does not comment on speculation. Decart did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Nothing has been signed.

What Decart Does

Decart was founded in 2023 by Dean Leitersdorf, Moshe Shalev and Orian Leitersdorf. It builds real-time generative video and interactive world models, including Lucy and Oasis. It also licenses the Decart Optimization Stack, software that helps a model run well on different AI chips so customers can move workloads between them. The company says the stack is built across Nvidia, AWS Trainium and Google TPU, and that it earns significant revenue licensing it to cloud providers and AI labs but has not disclosed a figure.

The chip link to Amazon is already close. AWS gave Decart early access to its Trainium3 chip in 2025, and Decart agreed to make its models available through Amazon Bedrock, AI News reported at the time. Decart’s CEO claimed Trainium3 allows up to four times faster frame generation at half the cost of GPUs, a company claim. Futurum Equities strategist Shay Boloor wrote on X that Amazon would be “effectively buying software expertise” to improve Trainium utilization.

Price, Rivals and Funding

Decart raised $300 million in a Series B in May at a valuation of nearly $4 billion, led by Radical Ventures with Nvidia among the investors and Sequoia Capital, Benchmark and Zeev Ventures also taking part. A reported $7 billion price would be well above that mark. Bloomberg reported in September that Anthropic had explored a purchase of Decart for roughly $6 billion and walked away. Calcalist reported that Nvidia also held acquisition talks before higher offers emerged, according to coverage of the deal.

Amazon shares closed up 3.29% at $262.43 on Friday, before the report. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said on the company’s first-quarter earnings call that Trainium has more than $225 billion in revenue commitments, per reports. If the deal happens, it would put chip-portability software inside the cloud company that sells one of Nvidia’s main competitors, which could matter to customers who want to stay free to switch between chips.
