Founder Zach Yadegari, 19, raised $10M
NEW YORK, Oct. 8, 2026 | Zach Yadegari, the 19-year-old co-founder of the calorie-tracking app Cal AI, has raised $10 million for Persona, a new personal AI agent startup, TechCrunch reports. Vine Ventures led the round, with Cory Levy, founder of Z Fellows, and Collective Global also participating. The company has not disclosed a valuation.
Persona pairs an AI assistant with a $179 wristband that Yadegari says is expected to ship in December. The assistant currently runs as a free beta over iMessage with "a few thousand" users, according to TechCrunch. The band has generated "five figures" in preorder revenue, the company told the outlet. An app is in development. Yadegari is working with a co-founder who has not yet been named.
From Cal AI to a Personal Agent
Yadegari built his first business in ninth grade and sold it at 16 for a reported $100,000. Cal AI, which estimates calories from food photos, was later acquired by MyFitnessPal. The deal was announced in March and the price was not disclosed. MyFitnessPal said Cal AI had more than $30 million in annual revenue in under two years. Yadegari left MyFitnessPal in June.
Persona's pitch is that apps will give way to a single assistant. Yadegari said apps are "collapsing and will collapse into a single super app powered by an AI assistant," and that the agent "can offer help and solve problems before you even know you have a problem." The assistant is meant to order food and rides, book travel, take notes, and answer questions and emails. TechCrunch compares the product to Instinct and Meta's Muse.
How the Product Works and Makes Money
The band is not always listening. It activates with a button or a wrist flick, and the AI model runs in Persona's cloud rather than on the device. Persona says data is encrypted in transit and at rest and that users can delete it. The company also says the agent cannot see credit-card details, and purchases require user approval through outside providers such as Stripe Link.
Persona's business model relies on advertising, with sponsored results appearing during shopping research, per TechCrunch. That raises a question for a product built on trust: whether recommendations from an assistant that earns money from ads will stay clearly separate from the ads themselves.
The category has a poor track record. Runtime Wire notes that Humane stopped selling its AI Pin before HP bought parts of the business in 2025, Amazon acquired the Bee wearable, and Meta bought Limitless and stopped selling its pendant to new customers. Runtime Wire also reports that the Persona band has not been independently tested, and that the company's terms make users responsible for actions taken within their granted authority, even if the assistant misunderstood an instruction.
