Summary: Cursor costs nothing on the Hobby plan, $20 a month for Pro, $60 for Pro+ and $200 for Ultra. Teams runs $40 or $120 per user, and Enterprise is priced by quote. Each paid plan includes a monthly usage pool, and anything past it is billed at API rates on demand. All prices come from Cursor's own pages as of October 2026.

In June 2025, Cursor changed its $20 Pro plan from 500 fast requests a month to $20 of usage billed at API rates. Within weeks, the CEO was apologizing in public. The episode explains why Cursor pricing still confuses people: the sticker price is easy, but what it buys depends on which AI models you use.

The individual lineup today is simple: $20, $60 and $200. This guide covers what each plan includes, how the usage pools and on-demand billing work, what teams pay, and how Cursor compares with GitHub Copilot and Claude Code.

How Much Does Cursor Cost Per Month?

Cursor costs $0 a month on Hobby, $20 on Pro, $60 on Pro+ and $200 on Ultra for individuals. Teams charges $40 per user a month for Standard and $120 for Premium. Enterprise has no public price. Annual billing exists, but the Cursor pages we could read list only monthly rates.

Plan

Monthly price

What Cursor says it includes

Hobby

Free

Limited Agent requests, access to Composer, no credit card

Pro

$20

Extended Agent limits, frontier models, MCPs, skills, hooks, cloud agents

Pro+

$60

Recommended for daily Agent users

Ultra

$200

Recommended for Agent power users

Teams Standard

$40 per user

Shared billing, admin controls, SSO, privacy mode

Teams Premium

$120 per user

Five times the Standard Agent limits

Enterprise

Custom

Pooled usage, SCIM, audit logs, invoice billing

That is the whole Cursor AI pricing ladder at a glance. Pro+ costs three times Pro, and Ultra costs about three times Pro+. Cursor's own guidance shows why that matters. Its models page says daily Agent users typically spend $60 to $100 a month, which is above the $20 Pro price. If you use agents every day, plan on Pro+ or on-demand overage, not Pro alone.

What Does Each Cursor Plan Include?

Hobby gives you limited usage, Pro adds extended Agent limits and frontier models, Pro+ and Ultra raise the usage limits for heavier users, and Teams adds central billing and security. Every paid plan includes a set amount of model usage each month. The exact amounts are not published as dollar figures on Cursor's pages.

Hobby: the free plan

Hobby lets you use Agent, Chat and Tab completions with the Auto model, with limited usage and no credit card. It works as a trial, not a daily driver for agent work.

Cursor Pro: $20 a month

Cursor Pro is the plan behind the "cursor pro" searches. It adds extended Agent limits, access to frontier models, MCPs, skills, hooks and cloud agents. Bugbot code review is billed separately on usage.

Cursor Pro+ and Ultra

Pro+ costs $60 and Ultra costs $200. Some people search for Pro+ as "Cursor Plus." Cursor does not publish dollar allowances, but CloudZero's September 2026 breakdown estimates Pro+ at roughly $60 of usage with about 3 times Pro's Agent limits, and Ultra at roughly $400 with about 20 times. If that estimate holds, Ultra is the cheapest per unit of Agent usage, because it costs 10 times Pro and delivers about 20 times the limits.

That is a third-party estimate, not a Cursor figure, so treat it as a guide to relative value. Source: CloudZero's Cursor pricing guide, updated September 4, 2026.

How Does Cursor's Usage-Based Billing Work?

Every paid Cursor plan includes monthly usage in two pools: one for Cursor's own models, Grok and Composer, and one for third-party models billed at each provider's API price. When a pool runs out, you can keep working on demand at the same rates, billed monthly, or move up a tier.

Cursor says on-demand requests are "never downgraded in quality or speed." Auto mode bills at the list price of whichever model it routes your request to. The India-only Start plan has no on-demand option.

Here are sample per-million-token rates from Cursor's models and pricing page. The page notes its list is partial.

Two surcharges apply. Teams and Enterprise pay an extra $0.25 per million tokens on third-party models, including when Auto routes to one. Regional data residency adds 10% to eligible model pricing.

The model you pick moves your bill more than the plan does. Composer 2.5 output costs $2.50 per million tokens against $20 for Claude Opus 5.5, an eightfold gap. Defaulting to Auto or Composer for routine edits and saving frontier models for hard problems is the cheapest way to stretch a plan.

Why Did Cursor Change Its Pricing?

In June 2025, Cursor moved Pro from 500 fast requests a month to $20 of usage billed at API rates. Users who burned through the pool quickly, or were charged overages without realizing it, pushed back. CEO Michael Truell apologized in July 2025 and said affected users would be refunded.

Before the change, Pro users got 500 fast responses from advanced models, then slower responses with no cap. After it, only Auto mode stayed unlimited. Truell wrote, "We recognize that we didn't handle this pricing rollout well and we're sorry," and explained that new models can spend more tokens per request on longer tasks, which Cursor had been absorbing.

This is the root of today's structure. Pools and on-demand billing exist because AI agents can use far more tokens per task than a flat request count ever priced in. Set a spend limit on your account so a long agent run cannot surprise you. Source: TechCrunch, July 7, 2025.

How Much Do Cursor Teams and Enterprise Cost?

Cursor Teams costs $40 per user a month for Standard and $120 for Premium, which has five times the Standard Agent limits. Enterprise pricing is custom and adds pooled usage, SCIM seat management, audit logs and invoice billing. Teams and Enterprise also pay the $0.25 per million token fee on third-party models.

CloudZero lists annual Teams billing at $32 per seat for Standard and $96 for Premium, which is 20% less. Cursor's own pages did not show yearly prices in the text we could read, so confirm the figure on the billing toggle before you commit. Enterprise is annual only, per CloudZero.

For a team of 10 developers, the seat fees alone look like this:

Team plan

Per month

Per year

Teams Standard

$400

$4,800

Teams Premium

$1,200

$14,400

Those totals cover seats only. Usage past each seat's pool is extra, and Cursor's own spend guidance suggests heavy agent users go past it. For heavy agent users, Premium's five times higher limits may cost less than Standard plus overage.

Cursor vs GitHub Copilot vs Claude Code: Which Costs Less?

GitHub Copilot has the lowest sticker price, at $10 a month for Pro against Cursor's $20 and Claude's $20. At the top end, Cursor Ultra and Claude Max 20x both cost $200. Sticker prices miss the real difference, which is how each tool charges for heavy agent use.

For 10 developers, the seat math runs from about $190 a month on GitHub Copilot Business to $400 on Cursor Teams Standard and $1,000 on Claude Team Premium. Seat price is not total cost. CloudZero reports GitHub moved Copilot from premium requests to usage-based AI credits on June 1, 2026, so overage on both Copilot and Cursor now follows token rates.

Copilot and Cursor are built around the editor, while Claude Code is built around the terminal, so the cheapest option depends on how you work. For a feature-by-feature view, see our Cursor vs GitHub Copilot comparison and our Claude Code vs Cursor breakdown.

Is There a Free Cursor Plan or a Student Discount?

Yes. Hobby is free with limited Agent requests and no credit card. Verified university students can also get a year of Cursor Pro free, according to a third-party guide from May 2026. After the year, it renews at $20 a month unless you cancel. Check cursor.com/students for current terms.

The student offer runs through SheerID verification, and a .edu email is the fastest route. The guide says approval is usually instant, though document review can take up to 48 hours. A free year of Pro is worth $240 at list price. Source: Verdent's Cursor student discount guide, May 19, 2026.

How Much Will You Actually Spend on Cursor?

CloudZero estimates spend from $15 to $30 a month for daily coding up to $150 to $500 or more for heavy agent use. Cursor says daily Agent users typically spend $60 to $100 a month and power users often spend $200 or more. Your model choices decide which group you land in.

Usage profile

Likely monthly spend

Plan that fits

Daily coding with light AI use

$15 to $30

Pro

Frequent frontier-model agent runs

$50 to $120

Pro+

Agent marathons and heavy automation

$150 to $500+

Ultra, or Pro+ with on demand

The spend ranges are CloudZero's estimates, and the firm does not publish its method, so use them as rough guides. CloudZero also advises checking your usage around mid-month, when a pool is near 70% used, instead of discovering an overage on the invoice.

Conclusion

Cursor pricing comes down to $0 on Hobby, $20 on Pro, $60 on Pro+ and $200 on Ultra, with Teams at $40 or $120 per user and Enterprise by quote, as of October 2026. Each paid plan includes a monthly usage pool, and anything beyond it is billed at API rates. Cursor says daily agent users typically spend $60 to $100 a month, so Pro suits lighter use and Pro+ suits daily agents. Model choice drives cost more than plan choice. GitHub Copilot has the lowest sticker price at $10, while Claude's plans match Cursor's at $20 and $200. Set a spend limit, check usage mid-month, and default to cheaper models for routine work.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How much does Cursor cost per month?

Cursor costs $0 on Hobby, $20 on Pro, $60 on Pro+ and $200 on Ultra for individuals, as of October 2026. Teams is $40 or $120 per user, and Enterprise is custom. Each paid plan includes a monthly usage pool, with overage billed on demand.

Is Cursor free?

Cursor has a free Hobby plan with limited Agent requests, access to Composer and no credit card required. It suits trying the editor, not daily agent work. Verified university students can also get a year of Cursor Pro free, according to a May 2026 third-party guide, so confirm terms on cursor.com/students.

What is the difference between Cursor Pro and Pro+?

Pro costs $20 a month and Pro+ costs $60. Both include model usage pools, but Pro+ carries higher Agent limits, roughly three times Pro's according to CloudZero. Cursor recommends Pro+ for daily Agent users. If you use agents every day, Pro+ may cost less than Pro plus on-demand overage.

Does Cursor charge extra when you run out of usage?

Yes, on plans that allow it. Once your included usage is spent, you can keep working on demand at the same API rates, billed monthly, or upgrade to a higher tier. Cursor says requests are never downgraded in quality or speed. Setting a spend limit stops surprise charges.

Is Cursor cheaper than GitHub Copilot?

No. GitHub Copilot Pro costs $10 a month against Cursor Pro at $20, and Copilot Business is $19 per user against Cursor Teams at $40. Cursor's higher price buys deeper agent features. Heavy users on either tool should expect usage-based costs beyond the seat fee.

How much does Cursor Teams cost for 10 developers?

Cursor Teams Standard costs $400 a month for 10 developers at $40 per seat, and Premium costs $1,200 at $120 per seat. Teams and Enterprise also pay $0.25 per million tokens on third-party models. Usage beyond each seat's pool is billed on top, so budget above the seat fee.
